Prof. Daniela Filipescu from Romania was elected president of WFSA at the 2024 general assembly held on 3 March 2024.
Daniela Filipescu is a cardiac anesthesiologist who also holds the positions of Chief of the Cardiac Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Department II at the Emergency Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Bucharest and Professor of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy. In addition, she has a master’s degree in health administration. The first person from Romania to hold the European Diploma in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care was Dr. Filipescu. She was granted ESA Honorary Membership in 2017 and has served in a number of elected capacities within the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA), including President of the ESA (2014–2015).Dr. Filipescu’s primary areas of interest in research are patient safety, transfusion, hemostasis, and sepsis. She presently serves as the chair of a national interdisciplinary group for the implementation of a Patient Blood Management program based in Romania, as well as the Scientific Committee of the Romanian Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Congress.
