The Croatian Medical Association was founded in 1874 in Zagreb. The Section for Anaesthesiology of the Croatian Medical Association was founded in April 25, 1962. The Section helped set in the Association of Anaesthesiologists of Yugoslavia (in 1962), and organised meetings, congresses and symposia with the participation of sections from different parts of the country.
After becoming an independent state the name of the Section was changed to the Croatian Medical Association for Anesthesiology and Intensive
Care.
The first congress of Croatian anaesthesiologists was held in Split (1994).
The Croatian Society for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care has become a member of the WFSA (World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists), of C.E.N.S.A. (the Confederation of European National Societies of Anaesthesiology), and others associations .
