Prof Dr Marijana Karisik
Montenegrin Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (MSAIC) exists since 2012. Previously, there was a Section of Anesthesiologists and Intensivists of Montenegro as part of the Society of the former Yugoslavia.
The Society has 110 members (specialists-anesthesiologists, residents and honorary members) at the moment. The total number of the anesthesiologists in this moment in Montenegro is 75 and the total number of residents is 19.
After Prof Dr. Marijana Karisik became the president of the Society 3 important moments happened, which represent the base and foundation of all activities of the association in the future:
MSAIC became the youngest member of ESAIC (European Association of Anesthesiologists and Intensivists) and have representatives in its committees.
The second important moment is, the signing of a memorandum on cooperation with the Turkish Societies of Anesthesiologists, Reanimatologists and Intensivists and the Societies of Anesthesiologists and Intensivists of the Balkan countries, called Balkan Anesthesia Platform-BAP, the agreement was signed last year, at the beginning of November in Antalya. This memorandum of cooperation is extremely important, it enables an easier exchange of information between members, facilitates education, provides the possibility of working on joint projects and many others opportunities for joint action.
And the third important moment is the organization of the first congress since the establishment of the independence of Montenegro. The First International Congress of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in Montenegro gathered more than 60 representative speakers professors of Anesthesia and Intensive Care from the region and beyond, and it was accredited by our Montenegrin Medical Chamber and endorsed by ESAIC.
