The Balkan Anesthesia Platform (BAP) warmly congratulates Prof. Basak Ceyda Meço on her election to the Board of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC) for the 2026 term.
Prof. Meco’s vision emphasises that anaesthesiology has evolved “far beyond the operating room,” with anaesthesiologists now acting as stewards of the entire perioperative journey. She highlights the importance of aligning clinical excellence with what matters most to patients, noting that patient-reported outcomes and experiences are “mirrors that reflect the real impact of our work.”
Within her ESAIC mandate, Prof. Meco aims to strengthen the integration of patient perspectives into perioperative care, promote meaningful patient engagement across the perioperative continuum, and advance collaborative European initiatives in education, research, and leadership.
Her election represents an important milestone for our region and for the continued development of modern, patient-centred anaesthesiology across Europe. BAP looks forward to her contributions to ESAIC and to further strengthening European cooperation in our specialty.
